With the presidential election days away, CNN wanted to remind viewers that no matter where they lie on the political spectrum, it will cover the full story. Enter “Middle Seat,” our tongue-in-cheek commentary on the polarized nature of contemporary American politics. Introducing a new character, the elephonkey, to the elephant-donkey foil established in earlier segments, the spot is a critique of our refusal to meet each other halfway — and a subtle suggestion to try.
